Ana TIjoux : The SoCal Sound Session LIVE ON-AIR with Nic Harcourt
Interview + 3 songs performed LIVE ON-AIR
The French-Born Chilean musician Ana Tijoux came into The SoCal Sound Studios to hang out with Nic Harcourt on More Music In The Morning with Nic Harcourt + Jet. Between interviews, she performed a few select tracks including Niñx, Tania, and 1977, before performing later that night at the Echoplex, which at that time kicked off her tour.
Ana Tijoux now calls Barcelona home, she explains the move was because she “needed a smaller city than Paris”. Tijoux is no stranger to relocating, having being born in France, living in Chile, and then back to France, Tixjoux: I think like that give you a point of view about the world. And I think it's great, is hard when you are a teenager and trying to understand where you come from and the roots and the identity, perhaps. But in a world of migrants, I think we come, all of us from everywhere, a little bit. So, for me, it was natural to come back to a place for another and I think to have different culture in me."
Ana Tijoux performed 3 song:
Tijoux is heavily influenced by hip-hop, and it comes through her performances, She explains what is so powerful about the genre “the way that they dance, the graffiti. It was an old culture that I think involved my brain and my soul, and I was feeling that everything was blowing like the colors, the attitude, the clothes. I'm thinking like a very, very like a young girl, like looking all those teenager like making stuff… Everything was amazing basically for me, and then having the, the ability to do that, first with the band and then obviously, as a solo artist that has taken you, around the world and in and out of various cultures that you've, you've lived.”
Ana Tijoux played Los Angeles at the echoplex the same day as this session, and her new EP; SERPIENTE DE MADERA is available now.
All SoCal Sound Session, interviews, and performances are filmed and edited by Matt Blake, recorded and mixed by Tristan Dolce.
