Today we celebrate Tom Petty day! Tom would have been 75 today. We lost him just before his 67th birthday eight years ago. :( To say I was a fan growing up is an understatement. I was obsessed. I finally got to meet him many moons ago backstage at Madison Square Garden in NYC:
Tom is the reason I bought my first guitar at age 15. My first song I learned to play on it was "Breakdown." I once saw him play with the Heartbreakers - front row - and he threw me and my friend Trina a guitar pick that said "4 chord wonder" - it's in this framed poster signed by TP himself!
Tom Petty was a huge fan of our station and even played not one but TWO benefit shows for us back in 2011.
We'll play a Tom Petty song every hour to celebrate this legend. Miss you so much TP. We all still can't believe you're gone.
